Accessible Accommodations at The Hibiscus House

The Hibiscus House, located in Fort Myers, FL welcomes all guests. However, due to the historical nature of our 1923 Inn the property is not completely ADA accessible. Removal of necessary physical barriers for complete accessibility is not readily achievable as such removal would threaten or destroy the property’s historical significance. However, we are committed to ongoing efforts to improve accessibility.

Accessible Accommodations:

  • All common areas are hardwood floors.
  • There is wheelchair access to both the Inn’s dining area and sitting room.
    The back entrance of the house has a ramp that can be used for guests with wheelchairs.
  • We recommend The Turtle Room, located on the first floor and closest to the back of the house. The room features a queen bed and wider doorways to enter the bedroom and the spacious bathroom. The step-in shower features a grab bar for safety and a handheld shower head.
  • We have a designated handicapped parking space in our well-lit parking lot located at the back of the Inn.
  • We are happy to make accommodations and meet dietary requirements depending on the request. Requests need to be made 48 hours prior to check-in.

Physical Barriers:

  • The front entrance of the Inn requires 3 steps.
  • No elevator & approximately 19 stairs to the second story.
  • There are 3 downstairs guest rooms located towards the back of the house and 2 upstairs guest rooms. All Bedrooms (including second-story rooms) have an interior door for direct inn access and a private exterior door to enter and exit. All 5 guest rooms have private bathrooms.
    • DOWNSTAIRS we have (3) guest rooms:
      The Parrot Room – King bed, workspace area with a desk, hardwood floors, shower with no tub and bathroom is tiled.
      The Flamingo Room – King bed, carpeting, tub/shower combination, this shower is a nice size but a little narrow to get in and guest will need to step into the tub to access the shower, bathroom floor all tiled.
      The Turtle Room – Queen bed, carpet and is a handicap accessible room which has wider doorways to enter the bedroom and wide door to enter the large spacious bathroom. Shower is easy to step into and has a handicap bar for safety.
    • UPSTAIRS we have (2) guest rooms:
      The Citrus Room – 2 queen beds, hardwood floors, spa shower, no tub.
      The Seashell Room – King bed, workspace area with a desk, carpet and a shower, no tub.

Our Commitment to Accessibility

We work to ensure every guest who wishes to visit can do so regardless of their physical abilities. Among the ways we comply with ADA:

  1. We ensure that individuals with disabilities can make reservations during the same hours and in the same manner as individuals without disabilities.
  2. We have identified and described the features in our inn and accommodations in detail to allow individuals with disabilities to determine whether our property meets their needs.
  3. We ensure that accessible guest rooms are held for use by individuals with disabilities until all other guest rooms of that type have been rented.
  4. We guarantee that the specific rooms, once reserved, are held for the reserving customer. We make reasonable efforts with third-party reservation systems to make all rooms available through at least some of these services and they must provide these third-party services with information concerning the features of the hotel and rooms.
  5. Guests with legitimate service animals as defined in the ADA will be provided access to all areas of the inn afforded to those without service animals.
