The Hibiscus House of Fort Myers

A Charming & Historic Florida Inn

The Hibiscus House, (formerly known as The LI-Inn Sleeps Inn, The Drum House Inn, The Wedding Place, and The Dowling Homestead), was built in 1923 by William H. Dowling, owner of the once busy Dowling-Camp Lumber Company of Slater. Slater was located 9 miles north of Ft. Myers and had the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad connecting it with Ft. Myers. Henry Ford loved to go there and watch the sawmill operations. William died in 1942 and his wife, Hallie, ran the mill for 2 more years until it was permanently closed in January 1944.
